Rathfarnham Chiropractor encouraging a Healthy Spine for a Healthy Brain

12 Oct 2015

Dr. Tammy Verlaan-Ross from Life and Balance Centre

This week Rathfarnham based chiropractor and President of the Chiropractic Association of Ireland (CAI) Dr. Tammy Verlaan-Ross will be educating South Dubliners on the impact of spinal and postural disorders on your health, wellbeing and quality of life.  This is part of Straighten Up Ireland Week organized by the Chiropractic Association of Ireland that incorporates World Spine Day on Friday 16th October.  Dr. Verlaan-Ross will be running a series of free talks during the week and is also participating in the CAI Spine and Nervous system checks with all proceeds going to the CAI charity partner Spinal Injuries Ireland.

Why is a Healthy Spine important for a Healthy Brain

In order to understand the importance of good spinal health, a simple understanding of how the body works is needed.  Your brain controls everything in your body and it uses your nerves to communicate with your body.  Your nerves run through your spine.  In order to have a clear nerve connection between your brain and body, your spine must be optimally aligned, allowing your body to function and heal normally.  Chiropractic care helps make that happen.

Dr. Tammy Verlaan-Ross, CAI President and Chiropractor at Life and Balance Centre in Rathfarnham comments: “Chiropractic care restores the health and function of your spine, improving the communication between your brain, your body and the environment.  CAI Chiropractors are experts in assessing spinal health and we encourage the public to have their spine assessed by a CAI Chiropractor regularly, much like you would visit your dentist to have your teeth checked.  Regular chiropractic care can help the spine and body to function at an optimal level, regardless of the presence or absence of symptoms."

“Chiropractic care is really about total health and wellbeing.  It’s about helping people to feel great and get the most out of life by functioning at their optimal potential.” says Dr. Verlaan-Ross.

Straighten Up Ireland Three Minute Exercise Programme

As part of the week long Straighten Up Ireland campaign and in line with World Spine Day activities, the CAI is urging adults and children to commit to a three minute daily exercise programme, specifically designed to maintain a healthy spine.  The exercises can be undertaken by people of all ages with a special program tailored for children.  You can watch some video demonstrations below and detailed instruction leaflets can be downloaded at Straighten Up Ireland  (NB. These exercises are designed for healthy individuals.  Please check with your chiropractor or health professional before continuing.  They are not meant to replace thorough assessment and appropriate care for spinal conditions)

Dr. Verlaan-Ross continued: "The Straighten Up Ireland exercises are like brushing your teeth for spinal health.  Doing the three minute set of simple exercises every day will help improve posture, stabilise core muscle groups, enhance health and prevent spinal disability."

Spine & Nervous System Check

Dr. Tammy Verlaan-Ross will be offering a Spine and Nervous System Check during the Straighten Up Ireland and World Spine Day campaign.  Vouchers are available to purchase until Saturday 24th October and must be used by Saturday 7th November, subject to the opening hours of the participating CAI Chiropractor.  The assessment will cost €30 and operate on an appointment only basis.  One hundred per cent of proceeds will be donated to charity partner, Spinal Injuries Ireland, to contribute towards the provision of support services for individuals with a spinal cord injury.  To avail of this offer, please visit the Chiropractic Association of Ireland Website to obtain a voucher and Contact Us to make an appointment.
